Nationalism and Religious Symbols, editorial April 3
The problem with the CAQ proposal to ban religious symbols while at work is that some religions require the wearing of particular articles of clothing, Hijab, Niqab, Yarmulke, Turbin or hairstyle, beard, etc, cannot be “hidden” while at work like a cross on a chain.
I personally do not consider anyone wearing these articles as promoting their faith. Will we also ban the wearing of visible designer labels as they are more a promotion by the wearer.
Whatever happened to the Quebecois laissez-faire attitudes?
