Municipal water usage restrictions in effect

With the sun shining and flowers starting to bloom, the city reminded citizens about certain regulations on the use of local drinking water. Residents are allowed to water their lawns mechanically between 3:00 am and 5:00 am on specific days until September 30. Citizens can get permits to water their lawns for $15, which allow all-day manual watering and mechanical watering for up to two hours a day for 14 days.

People can request permits by calling 3-1-1. They will be delivered electronically until municipal service centres reopen or another method is found. In the watering bylaw, which helps keep the city’s water supply stable, the use of outdoor tap water is restricted on Mondays in order to refill reservoirs. With pool fillings and mechanical watering taking place, the summer sees 50 to 80 per cent of the city’s tap water used outdoors. Failure to comply with the bylaw can result in a fine of $200 and even more penalties. If people don’t follow the bylaw, the city said it may have to prohibit outdoor watering across the territory. Spraying the city’s sidewalks, driveways and roadways is always forbidden.
