Mr d'Eça and Mr Black

 

My opinion in response to the letter from Mr Black: first, as to questioning why the Bulletin would publish material "already published." Mr Black, it seems obvious that if you are to have an opinion on a subject, it must be a subject which was "already published." Secondly, criticism based on what "seems second-hand" and "seems like (you've) read them before" is unsupportable as reason for criticism. Thirdly, being certain, while admitting your certainty is "just a guess" gives little credence to your argument. Finally, imagining what The Guardian would or would not publish, regardless of whose views they may support or rebuke, does nothing to carry your imagined argument forward.

As an avid reader of the Bulletin and its letters section, I look forward to cogent and vibrant discussions, and Mr Black’s contributions are appreciated. Moreover, though I don't always have the same opinions as Mr d'Eca, I find his views and opinions valuable to me in coming to a balanced understanding of all issues discussed here. I certainly look forward to a continued sharing of ideas.
