MP congratulates community media
I was pleased that several independent newspapers from West Quebec were rewarded on June 2 during the annual Quebec Community Newspaper Association (QCNA) convention for excellent work in 2016. The Bulletin d’Aylmer, the Equity, the Low Down to Hull and Back, the Pontiac Journal, and the West Quebec Post all came away with awards.
Special congratulations to Lily Ryan and Sophie Ryan, co-publishers of the Bulletin d’Aylmer, the West Quebec Post and the Pontiac Journal, who jointly received the Lindsay Crysler Outstanding Achievement Award. This is QCNA’s most prestigious honour!
We are fortunate here in the Pontiac to have access to such a great variety of local and regional newspapers. They report local news that matters, cover special events, and offer a comprehensive reflection of our diversity. They hold politicians and governments accountable.
Newspapers and media are facing industry-wide challenges as they adapt to changing technology and consumer habits, and the Government of Canada is well-aware of this changing environment. I look forward to sharing our new cultural policy due out later this year, under the leadership of Heritage Minister Melanie Joly.
So to our local papers: keep up the great work!
William Amos,
MP for Pontiac
