More building in Gatineau Park?
August 8, the Pontiac municipal council will hold a public consultation to amend a bylaw to allow construction and renovations on private land within the Gatineau Park.
The mandate of the NCC is to acquire all private lands in the park; allowing more residential building there is a slap in the face to the park’s ecological vocation, not to mention that its theft from future generations. Shame on anyone on Pontiac council aiding and abetting the spread of the residential development cancer inside Gatineau Park. Blinkered municipal councils and greedy developers are the park’s worst enemies.
The federal government must impose a development freeze in the park right now. It has the authority to do so, according to the Supreme Court (Munro v. NCC). A nice order in council would do the job...
The public consultation on this, August 8, at the Luskville community centre (2024, route 148) considers draft bylaw 177-01-01 at 6:00 pm; while the consultation on draft bylaw 177-01-02 will take place at 6:30.
