Mike Duggan running in Deschênes district
Although it is no surprise that councillor Mike Duggan is running in the November municipal elections, residents may be interested to know that he is running in the Deschênes electoral district, and not in Lucerne.
“Since its amalgamation in November of 2013, our neighbourhood of Glenwood has been located in Lucerne District (Ward 2). I had therefore run in Ward 2. But as of four years ago, our home address has been in Ward 3, Deschênes district. So I’ll run where I live,” explained Mike Duggan.
By running in this ward, Mr Duggan will be up against incumbent Richard Bégin. Bégin announced this winter that he is running again on the Action Gatineau ticket.
Mr Duggan said he is running for a second term so that he can continue working on issues of sustainable development, road safety, culture and sports as well as collective transit. He said he is ready for the challenge and notes it will be easier to push on his priorities, now that he has completed a first mandate and understands how to navigate through the municipal structure.
“There are files in Deschênes District that need attention and that have been left unattended for a few years. This is a district that requires skills, a lot of energy and experience; I believe I have these,” explained Mr Duggan.
As examples, he brought up the Boucher Forest issue, the Deschênes Rapids Ruins and development along Vanier Road as a North-South commercial corridor, etc.
This is Mr Duggan’s second electoral campaign, having won in the Lucerne district in 2013 as an independent candidate. He won against incumbent councillor André Laframboise who was with Action Gatineau, by 286 votes.
