Since last December, a new business opened its doors in Aylmer – Marché des Tropiques, located at 210, Aylmer Road. With this year’s never ending winter, this specialized food store offers Aylmerites good tropical food. “Aylmer is home to many cultural communities and someone must serve them,” says Bonaventure Ayena, owner of the store.
The store offers a wide variety of products such as cassava (yuka), coconut oil or shea and different exotic beverages. It is the ideal place to discover foods that are not easy to find. “It is not only food from Sub-Saharan Africa, we also carry products from all the tropical countries,” adds Mr. Ayena, originally from Togolese.
The food store also offers a variety of hot sauces. “If you like spicy products, you’re at the right place,” says Mr. Ayena
As well, the Marché des Tropiques offers beauty products “for the Black community”. Prepaid foreign mobile phone cards can also be found at the store.
Mr. Ayena, who settled in Canada a decade ago, has a jurist background and this is the main reason why he offers exotic products at a fair price. (Trans.: CB)
