Man sighted combing recycling bins for data
A resident from Luskville and a friend were walking, August 28, when they witnessed a man looking through a recycling bin on chemin du Marquis. They report that the individual was clearly picking up personal papers. They say he was in his 60s and driving a brown Honda Civic with a handicap parking permit.
The two report that he was carrying a big bag of documents, with envelopes and correspondence. They interupted the man, saying that he wasn’t allowed to do this. He replied angrily that he was only picking up cans to make some money.
The two called the MRC des Collines police, who opened a file on the incident, but say no investigation is underway until more complaints are received. The police asked around the neighbourhood but were unsuccessful in locating the garbage-picker.
“Be mindful of what you are throwing in your garbage, especially confidential documents,” a nearby resident told the media. He recommends shredding important papers before recycling them. Des Collines police suggest nothing confidential be put in recycle bins, from tax forms to bank and credit card statements, receipts and cancelled cheques.
Citizens who note suspicious behaviour around their homes are asked to contact the MRC des Collines Police at 9-1-1.
