Maison Jacynthe on Rue Principale: Beauty, healthy eating and relaxation through local and natural products
Greg Newing
Nestled inside a beautiful heritage home at 53 rue Principale is Maison Jacynthe, a local gem in the wellness industry. Maison Jacynthe was founded by actress and author Jacynthe René through her passion for natural beauty, nourishing whole foods and holistic approaches to well-being. What began as a website for Jacynthe to post reflections on healthy living, developed into a thriving online store and comprehensive ‘Maison Jacynthe’ wellness boutiques featuring products personally recommended, and often crafted, by Jacynthe.
Today, Maison Jacynthe offers skin care, cosmetics, organic superfoods, cooking ingredients and home essential products that are coherent with Jacynthe’s core values and vision of wellness. All products are 100% natural and, with the exception of makeup products which are made in Milan, are made locally in Quebec. To ensure the highest quality of raw materials are used, Maison Jacynthe grows and harvests its own raw materials through farmland adjacent to its beauty laboratories.
Maison Jacynthe supplements and natural health products are also made locally and are approved by Health Canada. The store also sells protein shakes, energy bars, snacks and gourmet salads that can be prepared for order. Salads are made with organic and vegan-friendly ingredients and visitors can sit and enjoy their snack or a lunch at the Maison. In addition to its wide range of health and beauty products, Aylmer’s Maison Jacynthe, which opened in 2020, also has a beauty salon with aestheticians on site as well as a popular infrared sauna experience.
For Jacynthe, it was important that Maison Jacynthe feel like a home, supporting wellness from the inside out. All of the province’s 13 Maison Jacynthe boutiques are located in heritage homes. The Aylmer location is in the Maison Georges-McKay, one of the oldest buildings in the sector. Jacynthe shared that maintaining the historic character of all the boutiques is a core part of her mission, “All of our locations are heritage homes and we renovate them to maintain the characteristics of the period in which they were built. From windows to roofs to walls we respect the entire building and protect our history and heritage.”
Jacynthe has published six books on health and wellbeing and is currently working on a seventh on skin health. “We emphasize fitness, healthy living and cost-effective eating,” says Jacynthe, “I’m not just a spokesperson – I live and eat everything that is offered in our stores.” Visitors can purchase books at the store as well.
Maison Jacynthe is open 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm on Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. For appointments at the salon and infrared sauna call 819 485 1747.
