Lucy-Faris Library moves to Galeries Aylmer shopping center

Set to demolish Place des Pionniers this fall - in order to build a state-of-the-art library and community space - Gatineau is starting the process of relocating the Lucy-Faris Library to the Galeries Aylmer. According to a press release issued by the city on June 18, the preparation work for relocation will have impacts on the various services offered at Place des Pionniers on 115 rue Principale. It stated that until July, the library’s service offerings will be limited to membership registrations, circulation at the counter, internet access, and access to skylight.

Between July 7 and 13, the library will be closed to the public to finalize the relocation. It added that the Aylmer sector service centre will stay open and provide its usual services to the population, noting that its relocation details should be announced soon.

On July 14, the Lucy-Faris Library should open in its new temporary location inside the former Aylmer Cinema. Pointing to the importance of maintaining the library’s service levels while the new one is being built, Aylmer district councillor Audrey Bureau, says the temporary relocation to the Galeries Aylmer is excellent news for the community. Adding that the area is home to a large contingent of seniors, Bureau said it will remain conveniently located.

While the temporary location won’t provide as wide an on-site inventory of books and other documents, Bureau encourages residents to request them to be shipped from other libraries in the city.
