Public Consultation
Lucy-Faris Library consultation March 21
Gatineau is holding a public consultation on the reconstruction of the Lucy-Faris library building at Place des Pionniers on Principale.
According to a press release issued by the city on March 6, the consultation will take place on March 21.
9 am to noon at library, afternoon session at Aydelu
Consisting of two activities, it will include a guided tour of the premises, from 9 am and 12 pm, explaining the building’s structural issues.
In the afternoon, citizens will be invited to the Aydelu Recreation Centre, where they will be able to contribute to the project by expressing the types of services it will offer and how they wish the library’s space to be used, ahead of the architectural contest that will be launched in the fall. The press release explained that the building’s usage has continually grown, and has significantly surpassed its durability.
The new three-storey structure is said to include a two-floor library with a larger inventory, offering a wider variety of services than the current one, as well as the Aylmer service centre.
The space is also expected to include specific areas for different categories of usage, such as conference rooms, multimedia rooms and quiet reading spaces.
In addition, hours of operation will be expanded.
Aylmer district councillor Audrey Bureau endorsed the consultation, stating that it would be an opportunity to indicate their vision of the new building to its team of architects.
“Your ideas on future usages, the activities, the services offered and the organization of spaces will also serve to define the developments that are proposed,” she said.
President of the Commission des arts, de la culture, des lettres et du patrimoine, Isabelle N. Miron, echoed similar words, noting that a library is one of the most used services by the population and that the public consultation would give locals a chance to contribute to their living environment in a positive way.
“This new step is another towards the modernization of the city’s libraries,” she said.
