LETTER
Lucerne Boulevard: three lanes!
Open letter to Gatineau City Council:
The original plan for Lucerne Boulevard was three lanes to be switched to two lanes east in the morning then reverse it in the afternoon, the same as the Champlain bridge lights. For some questionable reason, Council decided to eliminate the 3rd lane and replace it with two bicycle lanes. How stupid.
All Council had to do was upgrade the 30-year-old existing bicycle path on the old street car and train tracks and save hundreds of thousand dollars.
I know this would have upset the NCC and probably taken an unreasonable time.
This Council reminds me of the movie “Dumb and Dumber”. Maybe it is just a lack of leadership.
Council had better get one thing clear, vehicles are here to stay and every year they will increase by 1,000 or more. I think bicycles are perhaps a fad, as they were in the past, and we will see more for a while, then a decline after spending millions of tax dollars. There are so many more needy projects that need immediate attention.
Is Council wasting our money for personal objectives? There is still time to revert to the original plan. Three lanes, please.
