Lowering cell phone costs
Canadians expecting the Trudeau government to significantly lower the cost of cell phone use are misguided. Note the government’s last electoral promise of reducing income tax. The action they’ve taken will have a virtually unobservable impact for most Canadians. But it polishes the government’s image. Cell phone use costs in Canada are among the highest in the world. While telecom administrators make millions in salaries, and the giant telecoms make millions in profits, large swaths of rural Canada, including the Pontiac, suffer from poor connectivity. As with the income tax, the government’s actions on cell phone costs will be a far cry from helping Canadians cope with a needed communication tool.
