LETTER
Lots of words, no action
When Indigenous communities say “no”, oil companies and governments have a duty to listen. It’s a message driven home to politicians by the dozen-plus court challenges faced by Kinder Morgan’s expansion pipeline, the 130-plus First Nations and Tribes in Canada and the USA opposed to tar sands expansion.
It's easy for the government to say they support the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples - but when it comes to implementing this into law, all indications are that the Liberals will soon vote against legislation to do just this (Bill C-262).
