Local Pow Wow aims for reconciliation
Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School (PETES) students, parents, and staff hosted their inaugural Pow Wow, May 14 and 15. This two-day event honouring traditional culture, music and dance is the first of its kind in an urban school in the region.
The theme of the Pow Wow was “Reconciliation and innovation in education for future generations” with the goal of appreciating and imbedding indigenous cultures in urban schools. It was an opportunity for non-indigenous children and adults to participate in a celebration of indigenous heritage and traditions.
