Local palliative care homes raise funds creatively
In an effort to raise funds for the region’s palliative care facilities, the Maison Mathieu Froment-Savoie in Gatineau, the Maison des Collines in Wakefield, and Montebello’s Résidence le Monarque have teamed up to organize a virtual wine and cheese event on May 15, 2021.
Titled De nos maisons, à la vôtre, the event invites the community to enjoy the festivities from the comfort of their home, while supporting a very important cause.
For the price of $225, each box contains a dinner for two including specialty cheeses and a baguette to pair with two bottles of wine (one red and one white) as well as two souvenir wine glasses, the program for the evening and other surprises.
Hosted by local musician Marc Hervieux, the virtual event will be broadcast live via MAtv and Facebook at 6:30 p.m.; it will showcase eight artists from the region, including Fort-Coulonge’s Michaela Cahill, Chelsea’s Jess Mongeon, and Le Diable à Cinq from Ripon.
Presented by the Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais (CFO) with vice-president of operations and associate, Martin Beaudoin as President of Honour, the event will also feature a lottery draw for 3 cash prizes and 14 different all expenses paid vacations.
Dubbed as Loto Voyages des Maisons de Soins Palliatifs en l’Outaouais, the draw boasts $100,000 worth of prizes including a $15,000 cash prize, a train excursion in the Canadian Rockies, and a four-day stay in Lake Louise, Alberta to name a few.
Priced at $100 apiece or two for $175, tickets for the lottery can be purchased by contacting one of the three palliative care homes involved in the event or via the websites listed on the ad on this page.
Distributing proceeds based on the number of hospital beds in each facility, the funds will be dedicated to various projects such as renovating the Maison Mathieu Froment-Savoie’s laundry room, patients’ bathroom, sunroom, and backyard; completing landscaping at the Maison des Collines; and subsidizing part of the construction cost for a new palliative care facility in Plaisance, QC.
In previous years, the Mathieu Froment-Savoie’s wine and cheese event took place at the Palais des Congrès in Hull, before being held virtually last year due to the pandemic, according to the organization’s coordinator of financing activities, Annie Lemay.
With Covid-19 still preventing large scale gatherings from happening, she said it was beneficial to join forces with the other palliative care homes in the region to give the community something exciting to enjoy while ensuring everyone stays safe.
