LETTER
Limiting construction
Candidates talk about traffic and transit problems. No one gets to the core: unbridled construction of apartments and row houses -- resulting in large population increases.
Long-time residents came here for quality community life. Now green spaces are filled by “development”, urged on by the profit motive of selling condos for between $200,000 and $400,000 -- each.
We don’t want “development” shoved down our throats. With a 22 per cent population increase projected, no candidate mentions limiting construction in Aylmer. Would they even support limits?
Some speak of an “equilibrium” in development, without defining what that means in concrete terms. Does equilibrium mean filling all green spaces in the name of densification, only preserving large areas like the Boucher Forest? Does “equilibrium” mean allowing construction with some trees planted in some of the spaces cleared?
The mayor may as well live in Montreal, he appears so disconnected from the realities and expectations of Aylmer residents. Please press the candidates on what they will clearly do to limit construction in Aylmer, if anything. Otherwise, this election will be a sad walk in the fog of obfuscation.
