Let’s not duplicate Ontario
I appreciated one of your editorials in which you stated that a Ford victory could stimulate independence thinking here, out of shock. I have a better idea: we must not duplicate what happened in Ontario. That means we need better reporting of the issues (no thanks, Ottawa Sun and its awful reporting!) and we need voters who will actually read a little and think about the issues, not just grab a couple of throwaway lines and let our emotions run crazy. Democracy requires of us that we do more than just vote (or just sit at home and watch the results of other people voting!). We are obligated to dig up the questions of importance and dig up what the candidates here have to say on those issues (not just on their favourite topics). We have a Cabinet Minister running for re-election: what does he say about the key questions facing the whole of Quebec? We have other parties who can claim anything, but we have to ask how they will do what they propose, and what will it cost.
This is not Ford-land, and we have to make sure it isn’t Ford-land.
