Klock & Vanier for cyclists?
It’s summer and the youth (as well the greying) would love to cycle safely on our two main north-south axis, Klock Rd. and Vanier Rd. As all the suburban growth and large tracts of land continue to buzz with new houses, new residents and an indeterminable number of dump trucks, where is common sense and maybe a road shoulder or two?
Since I grew up in this area, there has never been a connection (mental or physical) between Gatineau Park and Aylmer. When I tell someone I use my bike (on Mountain Rd.) to check my cattle and how the hay isn’t growing, they look at me sideways. In the year 2016? This area has been blessed with abundant Nature and the farmers still farm (not yet swallowed by the building boom).
When I was a teen and I had a girlfriend in Chelsea (on the 105), my bike was my "Uber". It seems sensible to allow safe passage for bikes on our local arteries, seeing as the messaging to youth is get out and get fit. Anyone who wants to test their mettle on Richard's Hill with me is more than welcome. If Chelsea can manage having bikes in their midst, why can't we?
