LETTER
Jack Couture and the Bulletin
Your readers may appreciate this story. The biography of Jack Couture, Poolroom and Politics, was out of print and unavailable as a new copy by 2014 when I published Stories from the Poolroom. There are a few copies of the second book left but they also show up at yard sales. A friend sold one at their yard sale this summer to a former teacher and recently passed along a very nice note from the buyer:
"Wanted to let you know how much we’ve enjoyed Stories from the Poolroom. It’s been a treat to get another perspective on life in Aylmer.
“Reading this book prompted us to look into some of the others we have about Aylmer. Surprised ourselves by finding clippings we’d kept from the Bulletin by none other than Jack Couture. Thanks a lot."
So the Bulletin continues to show up in personal archives all over the place just as I found it and its predecessors in various archives. Here's hoping print journalism survives until someone discovers a satisfactory method to archive our ongoing digital history.
PS: I re-published Poolroom and Politics to make it available online. This version includes all of the stories from the second book.
