Introduction to camping in the Boucher Forest this summer

From August 17 to September 21, the Fondation de la forêt Boucher will introduce some sixty families to eco-responsible camping. 

An activity that is part of the third annual edition of the Boucher Forest Month, the initiation to camping in the Boucher Forest project will run from Saturday evening to Sunday morning over a six-week period.

During each of the 6 nights of camping, 8 to 10 families, a maximum of 40 to 50 people, will enjoy the wonderful landscape of the forest as well as night activities such as :

- Traffic using flashlights;

- Little bonfire;

- Games and songs ; 

- Open-air cooking.

On January 22nd, the municipal council granted $10,100 to the Fondation forêt Boucher for this project, an amount from the Cadre de soutien au développement des communautés program and a temporary exemption from its noise and peacekeeping regulations.

The project is aimed at families in Gatineau, especially those with no experience or who are new to camping. All necessary equipment such as tents, floor mattresses, sleeping bags, dishes and so on will be provided by the organization.

Families will be supervised and accompanied by an experienced person from the Fondation forêt Boucher with a supper and breakfast provided.

The Fondation forêt Boucher is promoting eco-responsible measures in this project, which adheres to the principles of the “no trace” program designed to help outdoor enthusiasts reduce their environmental impact. No waste will be left on site.

According to Marianne Strauss, Executive Director of the Fondation de la forêt Boucher, the objective of the activity is to raise awareness and educate the population. 

“In our opinion, the best way to promote and love our forest is to provide people with a memorable experience. It’s an affordable and fun activity and if people are bitten, that’s good.
