Independent truckers protest in front of Galeries Aylmer
Independent truckers held a protest in front of Galeries Aylmer during the morning peak hour on Monday, May 14, where the Quebec Minister of Transport, André Fortin, has his office.
The independent truckers mostly transport merchandise that needs no packaging; for example, soil, sand, crushed stone or asphalt to be delivered to construction sites and roadwork areas.
They were protesting the presence of unlicensed truckers on public construction sites.
The Association nationale des camionneurs artisans (ANCAI), states that the presence of these non-licensed truckers can lead to false billings on their part and working “under the table”. Throughout the province of Quebec, independent truckers want the Ministère des Transports to stop contractors from tolerating the work of truckers that are not operating under the Commission des transports du Québec.
“The work of truckers that are not members of the ANCAI is sometimes necessary on the sites in order to speed up the construction,” says Minister Fortin.
Similar protests were held in the region, namely at the office of the Direction du ministère des Transports de l’Outaouais and different service centres. The truckers ensured they were heard throughout the province.
