 Independent mayor and councillors represent grassroot democracy

 

The original publisher and editor of the “Bulletin d’Aylmer”, Fred Ryan, established a policy that it will not publish partisan political documents under the guise of letters to the editor; however, it will comment on issues, while not favouring nor discriminating against any candidate. This letter is not intended to stray from this policy.
    It is my contention that Action Gatineau has acted as a special interest group serving its own interests rather than serving all the electors.
    Electors of Gatineau had to decide which system of government and candidates are best suited to the needs of each ward. In making our choice, we gave consideration to the candidate who represents the “independent councillor”.
    The mayor and councillors are elected to advocate the city’s interests.
    It is important to remember that independent mayors and councillors are the last bastions of grassroots democracy in our encrypted system. (Letter edited to present tense.)
