In the first September 11, more people died
I want all to remember that this September 11 marked 44 years since the coup d’etat in Chile. Thousands of people were tortured and assassinated by the new military dictatorship.
The US played the important role in the destabilization of the government of Salvador Allende, encouraging terrorist actions and financing opposition groups, including a hostile press, with the goal of destabilizing the legitimately elected Allende government. The social chaos the US sowed generated the conditions for the armed forces to carry out the coup d'etat on September 11, 1973. Thus was the end of the Popular Unity alliance (Unidad Popular).
We cannot also fail to remember “The Church Report: Covert Action in Chile 1963-1973”, which reveals that the operations carried out or financed by the US to bring down the government of Salvador Allende as well as the fact that during 1970 and 1973 we saw increased training by the US -- training 781 Chilean soldiers at the School of the Americas, which was operating in Panama at the time. Now we have the same happening in Venezuela, and our press is crying for intervention. Nothing much has changed, has it?
