In defence of Fred Ryan, response to vulgar letter
I am a regular reader of the opinions expressed by Mr. Fred Ryan. Fred, I do not always agree with what you write, but I support your rights to express them as guaranteed by section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and section 3 of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms of Québec.
The Letter to the Editor of June 15 (page 5) Biased opinion piece (edited) signed VP (anonymous) should never have been published. The use of vulgar and inappropriate language and the lack of the courage of your convictions to allow your full name and place of residence to be published should remove your rights to be heard. The newspaper should not have published it. We dimmish the concept of freedom of expression by allowing “anonymous” and “name withheld” pieces to be published when so many valuable submissions are left on the cutting room floor.
Are you publishers getting the above message loud and clear?
