Subsidies for the Fondation forêt Boucher

Through its efforts to preserve the environment, the Fondation forêt Boucher received a subsidy from Gatineau under the Green Fund. The foundation received $18,610 for its project “Imagine Boucher Forest” and $6,978.50 for its BioBlitz activity.

“Imagine Boucher Forest” is an ambitious project aimed at protecting the forest. “In fall 2018, the Fondation forêt Boucher hopes to start a process for developing a forest management plan, using a unique and participative approach as well as offering original and free activities to the public, who will then be invited to take part in a brain-storming exercise about the future of the forest,” says Marianne Strauss, Director General of the Foundation.

 24 hour Bioblitz!

The June 16 BioBlitz aims to increase scientific knowledge of the forest’s biodiversity and of the means to protect it. Many activities will be organized: school field trips to learn to identify trees, as well as a 24-hour BioBlitz with expert volunteers who can identify many of the plant and animal species, giving participants a better understanding of the forest’s ecological value.

“Thanks to these funds, we will be able to take additional steps toward the protection of this superb green space in the heart of Aylmer,” says the Foundation.

Last April, the City of Gatineau decided to grant a total of $250,000 for 26 green projects within its territory. The money is allocated to non-profit organizations and schools that develop structural and awareness projects or studies aimed at improving and/or protecting the environment. The Green Fund was established in 2008.
