LETTER
Hydro’s paper bills are very useful!
Well, Hydro-Quebec has saved my life again (at least my literary life). I went to the library to renew my card, as I have done every year since I moved to Aylmer in 1975. The good people want proof that I am who I say I am, and I live where I say I live -- that is, they want some government document that shows that information. If I had a driver’s license there would be no problem, but I don’t. My passport, health card, bus pass all have my picture and name, but no address. My cheque book, from the Caisse Populaire, has my name and address, but that’s not good enough (without a photo). Fortunately Hydro Quebec still sends paper bills, and I’m once again deemed eligible to borrow books from the library for another year.
