House fire in Aylmer caused by cooking oil
Residents of the single family home located at 247 rue Vallon in Aylmer were unharmed during a fire that broke out in their home on the afternoon of June 17. It was determined that the fire was caused by cooking oil left unattended on the stove. Firefighters arrived onsite with an efficient evacuation of residents and an aggressive attack on the fire, successfully limiting damages. An occupant of the home was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector. There are currently two people being cared for by the Red Cross. Damages are estimated at $108,000. Investigators will not be transferring the file to the police and have ruled the fire an accident. In Gatineau, 73% of fires occur in residences and 20% of those are due to unsupervised cooking habits.
