Heritage home & balcony
I read with sadness the story of what was once a beautiful balcony on the Bigras' home in the core of Aylmer. It seems the city is happy to make money from the monstrosities of architecture now plaguing our town but councillors like Mr Begin - who used to lead the Aylmer Heritage Association - are powerless to drum up funds for restoring beautiful and now dangerous heritage buildings like this one. I laugh every time I drive down rue Principale and past the Aylmer Heritage Association building. If you look closely, in its backyard sits one of our lovely old heritage homes among the trees. It is crumbling to nothing because it is owned by the nearby golf course that profits from our town. So sad to see the AHA go from an organization that once held enough power to dictate how a Tim Hortons must be built, to become an organization almost completely impotent.
Do you think some of us could start a go-fund-me page to restore (instead of demolishing) the balcony of this lovely home for a family which has worked tirelessly to help Aylmer retain a small piece of its rich history, with what appears to be zero support from our city council?
