Heritage Cégep Foundation welcomes new president of the board

Three and a half years ago, the Heritage Cégep Foundation was created to improve student success, reduce the amount of debt acquired during their studies at the college, and improve the accessibilty of programs to students with special needs. The foundation has also been fundraising to be able to give out more bursaries and improve their equipment and technologies. So far, it's been a great success, as they've already raised $680,000 of their one million dollar goal. Appointed June 12, 2017, the new president of the board of directors, Carl Marcotte, agreed to a phone interview with the Bulletin.

Mr Marcotte has a long history with Heritage, dating back to 1993 when his girlfriend at the time, later to become his wife, Caroline Calouche, started working at the college. “She was loved by students and teachers alike for her dedication to student success and higher education,” said Marcotte. Ms Calouche passed away in early 2016 of health complications, leaving students, coworkers, and most of all her husband, with a pain that only someone who has lost a loved one would understand. But one thing is for certain, her dream of helping students lives on through her friends and family who created the Caroline Calouche Memorial Award in her honour. Speaking with Mr Marcotte, it was easy to see the same passion for helping others and wanting to see them succeed.
