Dangerous driving in the region

 

A 47-year-old Cantley man was stopped by police on Highway 307 for driving 102 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. Police intercepted the driver at about 9 am on Saturday, July 8, at which time the officer noticed the man was impaired. There was a six-year-old child in the backseat without a safety seat.

The mother was contacted to recover the child from the scene. The man is believed to be the father. It is expected that he will be charged with impaired driving and possession of narcotics. He was issued an infraction of $224 and three demerit points for speeding. In addition, he may be charged with failing to provide a proper safety seat for the child.

A 41-year-old Gatineau cyclist was the victim of a hit and run at the corner of rue Main and boulevard Maloney at approximately 2:20 am on Tuesday, July 11. Police responded to the call describing a collision between a cyclist and a vehicle. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the vehicle has fled.

The cyclist was transported to the Hull Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not considered life threatening.

Police were able to locate the driver and bring the individual into police custody. An investigation is currently underway.
