Why are you running?

I am passionate about public service. Government can do great things when it works closely with people and communities. I love working with people to build a better community. The work we have done together has led to great things. We have reduced child poverty by a third, reduced taxes on the middle class, and we are moving forward on the tramway. I look forward to continuing this work with you and for you.

What is your day job? 

I have the honour of being the incumbent Member of Parliament for Hull-Aylmer. It is through this role that I have already met many of you during one of my more than 50 open-doors and 24 public town hall meetings. I am proud of the work I have been able to accomplish in the last four years as your Member of Parliament. The Liberal government has made a real difference for children and families in Hull-Aylmer and throughout the country. 

Through the Canada Child Benefit, we have lifted 900,000 Canadians out of poverty—more than 300,000 of those Canadians are children. More than 10,000 families benefit from the Canada Child Benefit in our community of Hull-Aylmer. We have also helped middle class families by lowering their taxes, leaving them with $2,000 more in their pockets than they had in 2015. We have invested more than $8 million in affordable housing for more than 3,600 units right here in Hull-Aylmer.

What are your passions in work and life? (Volunteerism, sport, art, etc.)

I love running. I often start my days with a run. Running allows me to spend some time thinking and to get centred. I have also translated this passion into one more way to connect and stay in touch with the constituents of Hull-Aylmer when local organizations or charities invite me to run with them. 

What would your short-term and long-term priorities be should you be re-elected?

Better public transportation is critical and it is my priority. I am working with local, municipal, and provincial partners to bring improved services to our community. Also, as our community grows, the need for affordable housing grows with it. Once again, this is an issue where community leaders need to have an active and supportive partner at the federal level. We have seen the success of clean, sustainable infrastructure projects in cities and communities across our great country, such as Ottawa’s new light rail system. We need to see that same successful approach taken in Gatineau as well. 

We also need to continue the critical work being done alongside our public servants and unions to set up the next generation pay system that will make sure every public servant receives the pay he or she has earned, on time, and accurately. I am proud to have been able to play a part in that work in my role as Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board.
