Gov’t hides Canada Post profits
Canada Post’s positive returns disprove the fear-mongering and catastrophic picture painted by the Conservatives and Canada Post management. The Crown Corporation’s profits were $13 million in the third quarter last year – compared to $129 million lost the same period last year. It’s also the third consecutive quarter of profit in 2014. The last quarter is always the most profitable (holiday season), so Canada Post will show a very profitable year in 2014. According to the Conference Board, so often cited to justify the cuts to services, Canada Post was slated to lose $274 million in 2014.
These positive results have nothing to do with converting to community postal boxes: the 3rd quarter ended on September 27; the boxes started going up October 20. The NDP is adamant in calling for a moratorium on imposing postal boxes, because it presents no financial advantage to justify the loss of our home delivery.
