“Gigantika” is back!
Rue Principale gears up for summer festival
Aylmer’s celebration of rue Principale returns this year, August 18 to 20.
L’Association des professionnels, Industriels et commerçant d’Aylmer (APICA) is holding its 5th annual Festival of rue Principale, designed to draw attention to and appreciation of the services offered along rue Principale.
The theme this year, as last year, is “gigantesque”, a unique exhibit of large inflatable installations throughout Old Aylmer. The exhibit, called Gigantika, is staged by the Montreal-based non-profit, la Société pour Promouvoir les Arts Gigantesques (SPAG).
There are new inflatables this year as well as some of last year’s favourites. “We are working to find other ways of representing the theme of the gigantic,” project coordinator Anick Néron told the Bulletin.
Aylmer Ward councillor Josée Lacasse has contributed $6,000 again this year.
This year’s entertainment program is not yet complete, but organizers hope to include night-time activities to be held among the illuminated installations. In past years, family-friendly offerings have included live music, art exhibits, inflatable structures for children, a collective mosaic, and more.
