Gatineau Police say investigation is ongoing for the case of the Sexual Predator in Aylmer

The Aylmer Bulletin contacted the City of Gatineau Police (SPVG) for an update on the sexual predator case after residents contacted the paper with concerns about the lack of information on the case. Spokesperson for the SPVG, Andrée East, says that the investigation is still ongoing and that it is not uncommon for it to continue after an arrest has been made. More specifically, the Gatineau police are still investigating other events that took place to determine if there is a connection. 

In June of this year, there were reports to the SPVG of a man entering homes in the Aylmer sector and engaging in indecent behaviour. These incidents were specific near chemin Fraser, rue Wychwood, rue Juniper, and rue Armour. Police were also investigating a report of sexual assault that took place on June 26 following a break-in, which may be linked. 

In a press release on July 8, the SPVG said they had a man in custody after he turned himself in on June 30. The file was given to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DCPC) to examine the evidence and determine the charges.

The file is still under evaluation with the DCPC and is awaiting approval; however, the individual arrested is still in custody in connection with another case. East said, “Legally speaking, as long as the denunciation documents have not been issued, the file is not yet public and, therefore, the identity of the accused cannot be disclosed.” 

With regard to any other information regarding the case’s progress, including further evidence related to the file, East said, “For strategic reasons and in order not to interfere with the judicial process that is underway, we cannot give more details at this moment.”
