Gatineau finalist for drinking water quality in Quebec

Gatineau and its four drinking water plants are among the finalists in the municipal category with the highest water quality at the 2019 Symposium on Water Management.

Organized by Réseau Environnement, this event, which is being held on October 23 in Montreal, is the largest group of environmental specialists in Quebec. 

The cities competing for the title are Gatineau, Laval, Saint-Eustache, Montréal, Québec City, Lévis, L’Assomption, Saint-Jean sur Richelieu, Saint-Zotique and Rouyn-Noranda. The judges will base their verdict on the criteria of taste, clarity and smell, as well as a popular vote among Symposium participants.

 

The Drinking Water Excellence Program aims to ensure maximum protection against microbiological contamination through the maximum use of the three barriers of settling, filtration and disinfection at all times. The quality targeted exceeds that of Quebec and even American regulations.

In 2014, nineteen municipalities, including Gatineau, were registered in the Drinking Water Excellence Program (PEXEP). A total of 3,352,000 people, or nearly half of all Quebecers, are served with drinking water by PEXEP treatment plants.

According to information sent to the Bulletin by the city, the Mayor of Gatineau, Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, will be on site at Plaza Centre-Ville in Montreal to receive an award and give a speech on behalf of the city. (Trans.: BA)
