Gatineau businesses targetted with  $3.1 million Covid-19 relief fund

In response to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Quebec government has freed up more than $3 million dollars for Gatineau businesses. According to a press release issued by the city of Gatineau on April 21, the funds are from the provincial government’s Aide d’urgence aux petites et moyennes entreprises and will be controlled by ID Gatineau to guide businesses and provide them supportive measures. 

Featuring a total of $3,130,845, the press release explained that the program is aimed to directly impact local businesses that are struggling because of COVID-19. It added that the criteria for eligibility accepts businesses that have been operating in the province for at least one year, have temporarily closed, are likely to close or need to close, are maintaining or about to resume activities and those who can demonstrate that they’ve been directly impacted financially and operationally by the crisis.

The provincial government’s website explained that the program will offer support to businesses with direct loan payments of up to $50,000. Interested business owners can apply for the program’s financial assistance by filling out a prequalification form on ID Gatineau’s website - https://idgatineau.ca/coronavirus-covid-19-2 – or ask questions about it by calling 819-921-1477.

Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin said that the financial support will be a great way to help local businesses during the pandemic and stressed the importance for locals to support them as well. “We can all do our part by buying local,” he said. “I urge residents to show their solidarity and keep encouraging their neighbourhood businesses.”
