LETTER
Garbage
This is an open letter to the Federal Government, the Quebec Assembly and Gatineau City Council. I urge the Prime Minister, the Premier of Quebec and the Mayor of Gatineau to watch a copy of last week’s CBC Market Place – a television program covering waste management in Canada. Not only is our garbage in ships in the Philippines, but our plastic bags and other recyclables are being dumped by hundreds of tonnes daily in Asia. Canada has failed miserably in our so-called “waste management” programs.
Why is it a country as wealthy as ours can’t come to grips with its garbage?
Why are we so far behind old-world countries that do not have the wealth of Canada?
Why is it Canada does not seem to have the will to put money into proven programs to make Canada a leader in waste management?
When is Canada going to stop giving non-accountable billions of dollars to Third World countries?
There is an old French saying that is appropriate for Canada, “la charité commence par soi même”.
Jacques Cayer,
Aylmer
