G-7’s big success
Some people in the media are calling the G7 a train wreck, that it has lost its relevance without the US’s full participation. Let’s not forget that it may be a Group of Six + 1, not a Group of One + 6. If one member is intent on burning bridges instead of building them, let him stay home on his island.
Great achievements can still be made at these high-level meetings in the spirit of cooperation. Canada, the EU, Germany, Japan, the UK and the World Bank made a historic pledge of $3.8 billion CDN education for women and girls in crisis and conflict situations, about triple the $1.3 billion the PM was asking for. Canada pledged $400 million CDN over three years.
To all the Summit naysayers, just remember that 8.5 million women and girls have a much brighter future than a week ago.
