Fundraiser following the devastation in Haiti
Hurrican Matthew ravaged southern Haiti the night of October 3. The Bulletin d’Aylmer is collecting money to help the victims of the rampage in Camp-Perrin, where the people there lost everything. Many people are homeless as the hurrican erased everything in Under a day.
« These communities will never be the same, » reports one Haitian who grew up in Camp-Perrin and who now lives in Aylmer.
The funds collected will go directly to the victims in this city, without passing through an intermediary. The first order of business is to build roofs so that families can live protected from the elements. Getting the kids back into school is the next step, as well as ensuring clean water is available and food to eat.
Because Camp-Perrin is outside of the targetted centers to receive international aid, the Bulletin d’Aylmer team is focusing on helping these people directly. The team at the Bulletin is keeping accounts of all money donated, and will publish updates. The money will be delivered to Camp-Perrin directly, there are roofers on the ground who are now gathering what supplies they can – but are focused on establishing clean water and food sources right now.
Anyone who wishes to help, please visit the Bulletin d’Aylmer office at 181, rue Principale, Gatineau, Qc (in the Galeries Aylmer). Watch for further updates on the usage of this money in upcoming editions of the Bulletin.
