Full house for Tramway consultation
Aylmerites, as well as residents from across the greater city of Gatineau, are interested in public transit. Ferme Moore, the estate farm on the eastern edge of Aylmer, was full of participants for the consultation on building a tramway, September 19. A second room was added with a screen to handle the overflow or participants.
A rapid transit plan for the western portion of Gatineau has yet to be defined. The transit commission, the STO, has an upcoming public consultation on September 21 about a version of Gatineau’s Rapibus. This system is a network of quickly-moving buses that run between stops but on dedicated lanes, unlike the regular fleet of buses running on city streets. A tramway is commonly electric and can be installed on existing streets or new lanes.
At press time, the meeting was getting underway.
