Bena Construction blows out 30 candles!
It wasn’t always easy for the Ayoub family, founders of Bena Construction, but by sticking together and persevering, always with the goal of building better lives for themselves, but primarily for their many customers, today they are pleased to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
“The main elements that have allowed us to stay afloat and grow are working as a family, providing quality service and delivering great homes to our clients,” said Ayoub Ayoub, founder and Vice- President of Bena Construction. “Thirty years later, we still live by the same principles.”
Sticking by those goals was not always easy, especially during the housing crash in the 1990’s and during uncertain political times.
“In the 1990’s when we had the referendum in Québec we struggled a lot, but we worked hard and we pulled out of these difficult times. We did so by helping each other and tightening our belts. We had hit the bottom in the 1990’s, but 30 years later we are in a strong position.”
Modest beginnings
Founded by four cousins in 1986, Mikhael, Ayoub, George and Adel, Bena Construction has matured into a trusted home builder known across the National Capital Region. This solid reputation did not materialize overnight.
“When we built our first housing project on 12th Avenue (Impasse de l'Excursion today) in Aylmer, we were new in the business and we had many things to learn. The project was practically in a rural area at the edge of Aylmer and we had to convince people to purchase homes in that nice place. It was a struggle, but we were dedicated and we managed to successfully complete the project,” explained Ayoub.
After their initial project, Bena completed several additional projects including Beaulac Street, Terrasse Eardley, Terrace de l’Ambassade, corner of Taché and Saint Raymond and in the Plateau.
neighbourhood. Since 2003, Bena has been working on their biggest project yet, called Village Ferris Farm, at the intersection of Front and boul. des Allumettières.
“We evolved over the years to keep up with styles and the new trends in the market, all while maintaining superior quality and allowing our clients to customize and personalise their homes,” said Ayoub.
“We are very proud of what we have built for the community. Building homes forges a bond between us and our clients since we have given them a home in which to live for a long time. It’s not something ephemeral,” added Ayoub.
Building strong bonds
Unlike other housing companies, Bena customers are able to talk to more than just their salesperson. Mr. Ayoub himself often visits the homes during various phases of construction.
“It gives us joy to build homes for families. I love it so much because it allows me to talk to people in the community and to meet new people,” said Ayoub.
Beyond creating strong relationships with their customers, another key to Bena’s success has been to establish strong bonds with contractors and suppliers.
Moreover, since its start, Bena Construction has always found time to participate in the neighbourhood and support various causes and organizations. Over the years, it has funded women’s shelters, the Aylmer Food Bank, various youth camps, and a wide gamut of health organizations.
“Today, we have the strength to continue to grow, to innovate and to achieve more,” added Ayoub.
