Friends of the Marina support the Heritage Association
Our residents’ association, Friends of the Marina, noted with concern the message this week from the Aylmer Heritage Association about what might be happening with the site of the Castel blanc on Rue Principale. We echo the fears of the Heritage Association.
We share the belief held by the majority of Aylmer’s population that the heritage character of Old Aylmer, especially on Rue Principale, represents an enormous wealth that gives our community all its personality and appeal. Erecting «big-box» buildings in every available space will do nothing to enhance that which makes Aylmer an attractive destination.
Destroying green spaces to replace them with bricks and mortar in no way helps in the reforestation and re-greening of our environment, something our planet sorely needs. It goes against the efforts of stakeholders in our community, including the Friends of the Marina, to help reconstitute native forest biodiversity in downtown Aylmer and surroundings by offering citizens trees to plant.
We urge the civil authorities to show some vision and protect this jewel of our heritage.
