Friends of the Marina question master plan

Members of the residents’ association, Friends of the Marina, are preparing their questions for the October 11 public meeting on the changes to the City’s master plan for redesigning the marina and the Parc des cedres.

The group has been in discussion with city planners since mid-September and, although the revision of the original plan is still preliminary, the city’s proposals have raised concern with many nearby residents, according to the association’s president, Jean-François Lacombe. In particular, the residents are concerned that the city wants to convert parking for the sailing club into general parking. “This would affect the neighbourhood’s peacefulness,” Lacombe told the Bulletin. “A master plan should first preserve the safety of nearby residents.”

Residents are especially concerned about increased traffic on nearby sidestreets, which are narrow and already well-utilized. The group has been in discussion with these residents, and with the ward councillor, Audrey Bureau, to keep parking as it is now.

The residents’ association also wants to keep the present ball park, which is in constant use. The group has studied plans for the new pavilion which will soon be under construction. They believe the pavilion will be an asset for community groups and for the sailing club.

The October 11 consultation is open to the public and the association urges all citizens to bring their questions, starting at 6:30 pm, Ernest Lattion Centre, 30 Court Street.  (Transl. FR)
