Former Liberal MNA Charlotte L’Écuyer slams Quebec party

Retired MNA for Pontiac, Charlotte L’Ecuyer,  has spoken out, strongly condemning her former party and asking Outaouais voters to break with their long attachment to the Liberals.  She told TVA journalist Jean-Pierre Séguin that the Liberals have done nothing for the region and have taken it for granted during their long hold on power in Quebec City.  Asking voters to “take a new step”, she said she did not favour any other particular party, but urged citizens to pay attention to the platforms – and records – of all those running for office in the region. 

The ex-MNA directed her sharpest arrows at the party chief, who she says lacks leadership abilities and who takes this region for granted.  She was the Pontiac’s MNA from 2003 to 2014, under Jean Charest’s leadership.

News of cancer

Ms L’Ecuyer, former director of the Pontiac Health Centre (the hospital in Shawville, the Pontiac’s CLSC E.R. and multiple local CLSC clinics), also announced that she is suffering from metastasized bone cancer. In her earlier career, she managed the difficult consolidation of Pontiac’s health services, and defended continuation of 24-hour emergency service in the Upper Pontiac. Ms L’Ecuyer was known as a defender of decentralization and local management of health services, which may have brought her into conflict with the current government’s health system plans.
