LETTER
Forgetting Aylmer’s English-speaking residents?
The population of Gatineau in 2018 is forecasted to be just over 301,000 residents. The most recent census data from Statistics Canada (2016) indicates that there is just under 70,000 residents in Aylmer and about 29,000 (just over 40%) of them are English speaking. However, obtaining services in another language other than French in the Outaouais is often overlooked. Case in point, the delivery of our Grey Gatineau garbage bins recently which included French only pamphlet information. I would like to remind our elected officials (Mike Duggan) and the Mayor of Gatineau that English-speaking residents have elected you to represent the needs of everyone in our fair city.
As a francophone resident speaking on behalf of all English-speaking Aylmer citizens, neighbours (and my wife), I note that English pamphlets are available at 115 rue Principale (beside the library).
