Fines total $3,849
Police chase near Gatineau Park
Around 10 am on January 20, Gatineau Police intercepted a speeding vehicle – 110 km/h over the limit — just at the border of Aylmer/Hull and the Gatineau Park.
The interception took place while police were having a speed control operation on Hautes-Plaines Blvd in Hull, near the Park.
The vehicle was first noticed while traveling at 55 km /h in a 30 km/h zone. The driver, a 32 year old Gatineau resident, was driving east at the time. In order to avoid interception, the driver made a U-turn at de l’Arche Street and headed west.
A short chase followed, a second laser reading was done showing the fleeing individual was driving at 140 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. Once intercepted, the man tried running away on foot but the police were able to proceed with his arrest.
The individual ended up with 11 tickets, one of which was for extreme speeding, another for speeding and another for not possessing a driver’s licence.
Since the driver did not have a driver’s licence, the vehicle, a 2014 Toyota Rav 4, was seized for 30 days. The fines linked to this incident totalled $3,849 and 34 demerit points to his driving record.
Furthermore, four charges under the Criminal Code will be submitted to the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales – dangerous driving, flight, obstruction and possession of cannabis. He was released with promise to appear in court. (Trad.: CB)
