LETTER
Finding a doctor?
I would like to reply to Ms Overall’s letter of complaint about doctors in Aylmer in last week’s Bulletin. First, I have lived in the area for forty years, and I can sympathize with her family’s difficulty in finding a family doctor. She is not alone, which is a problem I wish some government would remedy by forcing med schools to accept more students. Fund more seats in med schools – rocket science?
For Ms Overall – and many others – to blame individual doctors for somehow being unwilling to serve her, personally, is ridiculous. Doctors, I am sure of it, are regular human beings – with families, kids, debts, studies, etc. She expects them to just accept everyone who gives them a call? What kind of service would she expect from such a system – already doctors are being told to cut back on the length of visits.
Lastly, people often refer to their right to health care. I wish it was true. However, where is this right enshrined, as are our other rights? I believe this should be a right, but not if it’s then left to the private sector to fulfill this right or not.
Ronald Suppes,
Aylmer
