Fentanyl hits Aylmer
Police seize 20 grams of one of the most deadly opioids in Canada
On September 29, Gatineau police led a planned operation at 66 Saint-Antoine Street, apartment 2, that resulted in the arrest of a man and a woman for alleged fentanyl trafficking. Police seized 20 grams of fentanyl, a Taser-type weapon, $3,340 in cash, and two cell phones.
Because of the possible presence of fentanyl powder, the operation required support from the Sûreté du Québec’s specialists in dismantling clandestine laboratories. For safety reasons, the building was evacuated and part of Saint-Antoine Street was closed off during the operation.
The 31-year-old man and the 20-year-old woman, both Gatineau residents, appeared before the Court of Quebec on September 30 on charges of drug trafficking, drug possession and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Fentanyl is one of the most deadly opioids in Canada and associated with many overdoses. Information from the public led to this police operation.
