Aylmer’s rue Principale
Favourite destination has no trash bins
Gatineau Public Works is analysing a plan to install public garbage cans along the popular rue Principale in Aylmer. There are currently no public trash cans on this street. Although bins are located along other busy Aylmer streets such as Vanier Road in Deschênes neighbourhood and along the Marina boardwalk, rue Principale remains a challenge for the city. Shopkeepers have asked Gatineau to install the bins as the business-owners are taking garbage into their commerce to keep the street tidy. One city official noted that trash cans are on the way, that a plan is in place to install the cement bases, followed by the trash bin. No recycling or organic waste bins will be included as municipalities have concluded that separating these waste materials is highly inefficient on the part of the public.
